Airport Surface Detection Radars (ASDE-3)
|
The Airport Surface Detection Equipment (model 3) radars track aircraft and vehicles on the ground to help avoid collisions, runway incursions, and other safety issues. ADSE-3 is a legacy system to the newer-generation ASDE-X installations (9000-9200 MHz), which work better in the rain and incorporate information from additional sources for more reliable data.
In the U.S., ASDE-3 is installed at approximately 30 large airports.
