Radio Astronomy (608-614 MHz)
|
The band 608-614 MHz, which would otherwise be TV channel 37 in the United States, is reserved for radio astronomy and wireless medical telemetry devices (see separate entry on WMTS).
Radio astronomers use this band for continuum (wide bandwidth) observations of celestial radio sources. Its location in the radio spectrum is strategically located between the next lower and next higher radio astronomy bands, in order to best characterize frequency-dependent changes in cosmic emissions.
See the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society newsletter article for more information on the history and use of this band for radio astronomy.
