Amateur Radio Secondary Allocation Adopted at WRC-12
|
A secondary allocation was made to amateur radio in this band at the 2012 World Radiocommunication Conference. It will likely be a few years before amateurs are able to use this band, as individual countries must adopt rules for its use.
The ITU Radio Regulations limit amateur radio transmitters in this band to 1 W EIRP, although up to 5 W EIRP may be allowed if the transmitter is a minimum distance from the borders of certain countries.
Because of the limited amount of bandwidth, amateurs will make use of narrow-band communications, such as CW and digital modes, instead of voice and other wideband signals.
